We are currently hiring for SAINT CLOUD YOUTH SHELTER, our twelve-bed emergency shelter for youth ages 12 –19 who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. Located in Saint Cloud and helping youth from around the state, SYCS is a comfortable, 2-story residential home where all youth are welcome.
The Youth Advocate position is responsible for assisting in the holistic case-management support of youth and for developing, supporting and implementing youth programming that is culturally-competent and grounded in positive youth development, harm reduction, and trauma-informed care.
This position is for a Full Time Youth Advocate, Thursday - Monday 4:00 pm – 11:00 pm.
When home is not a safe place, or youth are kicked out of home, couch-hopping, or on the streets, SCYS offers a safe alternative. Youth share kitchen, living, recreational, and beautiful outdoor spaces and receive transportation to school. Supportive staff help youth work through any crisis, secure community resources, and plan for the next step on their journey.
At SCYS, youth gain self-sufficiency and independence, with a goal of family reconciliation and reunification.
Qualifications:
Age 21, meet the Minnesota Department of Corrections rule 2960 standards for Group Residential Programs and all other applicable agency standards.
Valid driver’s license required
Special Skills:
Culturally competent, strong organizational and prioritizing skills, good written and verbal communication skills; along with basic knowledge of Microsoft Office.
Duties and Responsibilities include the following:
Be a positive role model for the youth and resolve conflict in a constructive fashion.
Take crisis calls, conduct call screenings, intakes and discharges.
Support daily case management goals for the youth.
Teach and model the skills necessary to maintain good health through the teaching of healthy eating habits.
After training provide passing medication through our Medication Administration policy using proper documentation.
Provide concise communication via case notes, staff logs, phone contacts, resident files, medical administration forms, etc.
Display teamwork through supportive communication, participation in the development of case management plans and attending staff meetings.
Maintain appropriate involvement in daily and recreational activities with the youth through positive role-modeling, sportsmanship and safety.
Driving and/or transporting youth as needed.
