Summary:

The Raw Material Coordinator is responsible for ensuring raw materials are tested and that COAs are reviewed to ensure that product is within specification. Works with raw material suppliers to ensure production of high quality and safe products for our customers. Applies sound Chemistry principles to analyze and troubleshoot raw material issues. Delegation of tasks to employees does occur. Additionally, the Raw Material Coordinator will maintain good working relationships while representing Griffith Foods best interest will conduct business in a fair and reasonable manner.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Provides oversight of COA review and verification activities including delegation of tasks to raw material analysts.
  • Verifies that only approved raw materials from approved suppliers and manufacturing locations are used in manufacturing.
  • Prioritize and ensures timely QS release of raw materials to manufacturing.
  • Supports QS Compliance teams for raw material risk assessment.
  • Reviews and submits reports for vendor reject data and maintains information in LIMS.
  • Review old raw ingredient stock and dispositions.
  • Reviews and submits reports to vendors due to non-conformances.
  • Follows up with vendors for corrective actions.
  • Helps set up specifications for raw materials.
  • Serves as technical contact for raw material inquiries.
  • Visits suppliers to troubleshoot issues or perform audits if required.
  • Provides data related to quality & food safety performance of supplier to build supplier score card.
  • Collaborates in Supplier rating programs.
  • Assists in preparing for and participating in customer, regulatory, and third-party audits. Assist in investigation and satisfactory disposition of internal issues, customer complaints and audit findings.
  • Provides back-fill coverage in lab positions and contributes experience and scientific knowledge.
  • Coaches and trains lab personnel in special test procedures to analyze components and physical properties of materials.
  • Troubleshoots minor issues with lab equipment.
  • Proactively assist in the design and implementation of new processes, methods and effective laboratory procedures.
  • Audit warehouse and manufacturing process to ensure operators are following work instructions, and GMPs.
  • Performs wide array of laboratory testing on raw material such as piperine, pungency, volatile oil, titrations, viscosity etc.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical or Biological Science.
  • Food science focus is a plus.
  • 5 years’ experience in the food processing industry and food laboratory setting.
  • 1 year supplier and/or customer communication.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Competency in Microsoft Office.
